Words On Walls
Napier Inner City Marketing has recently introduce a variety of texts into less obvious areas throughout the inner city to create a "walk behind the façade". The inner city's compact and intimate nature lends itself to being explored on foot.
These sign written, semi permanent installations link in with the many inner streets that are named after celebrated poets and authors such as Emerson and Shakespeare. They also include a story about the 1931 Napier earthquake.
As social sculptures, the words are intended to provide enjoyment, provoke self interpretation (or even a smile) and offer people a reason to linger longer.
We intend to have leaflets printed highlighting where the texts can be found and including brief explanations as to the context of each text. In the meantime check out Theatre Lane, the car park behind the cathedral, the side of the Municipal Theatre and the Napier i-Site Visitor Centre.....
Enjoy!
