XMAS IN NAPIER

After a few years without a city parade we are excited to bring back a new, rejigged SANTAS WORKSHOP COSTUME PARADE.

There are hundreds of dollars in prize money up for grabs for the best costumes so we encourage you all to get together with your friends, family, schools, sports teams etc and join the fun!

If you would simply like to watch the parade, we invite you to line Emerson St for a 2pm start as the parade makes its way towards Clive Square.

Once the parade arrives at Clive Square and the awards ceremony takes place the area will come alive with Napier’s very own CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL.

Kids will have the opportunity to have a photo with Santa in his grotto, take a ride with the family on the Hawke’s Bay Express, dance along to a live Christmas concert, have their faces painted, stare at some stilt walkers, take part in some Christmas activities such as decoration crafting and MORE. And all FREE.

Come along to join in the festive spirit!!!

WALKING EXHIBITION:

On all week. Download your map below or pick one up from any of the participating retailers and follow directions to discover 25 displays of incredible local talent.

COMPETITIONS:

Join the “Quest for Quirky” by taking your own photographs displaying Napier CBDs quirkiest elements. Enter (before 5pm Friday 3 October) under any (or all) of the following categories to WIN

Hidden secrets – what amazing things are hiding in the CBD? It’s their time to shine! – enter this to win $500 CASH
Not your ordinary every day - What makes your day special in Napier? Is it a coffee with a difference, a stone from the Marine Parade shaped like a tiger or a interesting local personality? Showcase them and enter to win $500 CASH
Selfie – who has the longest arm? Take a shot of yourself, a Napier CBD icon & anything else that tickles your fancy to win $250 CASH

As a BONUS prize you can upload your photo to the Napier In The City Facebook/Twitter and hashtag #napiercity AND #questforquirky. The photo with the most likes by Friday 10 October will also win $250 CASH!

“Adventure before Dementia” is a presentation of images from Napier photographer, Bruce Jenkins documenting his recent 4 month road trip across USA

Competition Terms & Conditions:

1. Entry into this competition is deemed acceptance of the terms and conditions.

2. There is no limit to the number of entries.

3. Entries must be submitted in one of three categories: “Hidden secrets”, “Not your ordinary everyday” or “Selfie”

4. Entries can be emailed to [email protected]. Simply state your name, age, category & contact details.

5. Entries close at 5 pm on Friday 3 October 2014.

6. Entries become the property of Napier Inner City Marketing and can be used for promotional purposes.

7. A select panel of judges will select the winner of the “Hidden secrets”, “Not your ordinary everyday” and “Selfie” competitions. Their decision is final and no correspondence will be entered in to.

8. The winner of the Peoples Choice competition will be decided by whomever has the most likes on their image across either/both Facebook and Twitter. Images must be posted on the Napier Inner City Facebook and Twitter pages and hash tagged with both #napiercity #questforquirky to be eligible

9. The winner of the “Hidden Secrets” and “Not your ordinary everyday” categories will win $500 each, the winner of the “selfie” category $250 and the winner of the peoples choice will receive $250

10. The winners will be notified by midday Monday 13 October.

BOX ART IN THE CITY

Local artist Tara Cooney has been out and about transforming various street cabinets and pedestals.
The overarching theme is Napier…a good yarn with each of the designs incorporating a ball of wool unravelling, to depict some of Napier’s great stories.

Many thanks to Unison and Chorus for agreeing to let us paint them and Resene for donating the paint….. a fine example of great team work!

Benches tend to be communal, backless options are most suitable for short-term “stays”, with padded seats inviting you to linger longer. Regardless, they’re very handy and believe it or not, there are lots to choose from. Take your pick!
